Why mainspringed
What sets a careful workshop apart.
There are many ways to get a watch serviced. Here is an account of how mainspringed approaches the work — and what that means for you and your timepiece.

What you get when you choose mainspringed
Qualified watchmaker on-site
Work is carried out by a watchmaker with over 15 years of practical experience, not passed to untrained staff.
Written summary with every job
Every piece leaves with a plain written account of what was done. You know exactly what has been carried out.
Published service prices
Standard service prices are posted clearly. For restoration, a written estimate is provided before any work begins.
Original parts returned on restoration
Replaced original components are documented and handed back — they are your property, not workshop waste.
Water-resistance testing included
Gaskets are renewed and tested before return, not assumed to be fine. This is standard practice, not an add-on.
Local workshop in Hua Hin
No need to post your watch to Bangkok. Drop it off in person, speak directly with the watchmaker, and collect it locally.
Expertise
Over fifteen years behind the workbench
Kritsana Phromwong, the workshop's head watchmaker, trained formally in Bangkok and holds a certification from the British Horological Institute — one of the few internationally recognised qualifications in the field. Before establishing mainspringed, he spent more than a decade servicing a wide range of Swiss and Japanese movements for a Bangkok-based repair centre.
That background means the workshop can approach a 1960s manual-wind movement with the same care it brings to a contemporary automatic. Experience with a variety of calibres and ages is genuinely useful — particularly when sourcing parts for older pieces.

Equipment
Proper tools make a measurable difference
A full mechanical service without an ultrasonic cleaner and timing machine is incomplete, however experienced the person doing it. mainspringed maintains the equipment that makes servicing verifiable rather than approximate.
The timing machine allows us to regulate a movement in multiple positions — pendant-up, crown-right, dial-up — which reflects how the watch is actually worn. The result is regulation that holds up in real use rather than just in the workshop.
Communication
You are kept informed, not kept waiting
Watchmakers sometimes have a reputation for being hard to reach and vague about timelines. We have tried to build the opposite experience into how we work. You receive a written intake record when you drop off. We contact you if something unexpected is found before continuing. You receive a written summary on collection.
If work is going to take longer than estimated, we let you know. If a repair is not going to be cost-effective given the piece's value, we say so plainly rather than proceeding and presenting a bill.
Written intake record at drop-off — you keep a copy
Contact before proceeding if unexpected findings arise
Written completion summary on collection
Realistic timeline estimates, updated if anything changes
Restoration quoted in writing before work begins.
Pricing
Prices that are posted, not negotiated
Standard service prices are listed on our website and shown at the workshop. We do not have one price for some customers and another for others.
For restoration work, the price depends on the extent of work required. We provide a written estimate before anything begins. If the actual scope changes, we discuss it with you first.
How we compare
mainspringed vs typical watch counter service
There is no single "watch repair" experience. Here is how a dedicated workshop differs from a general jewellery counter or postal repair service.

What makes us different
Things you will not find everywhere
A free initial assessment
Bring your watch in and we will take a look at no charge, give you an honest assessment of what it needs, and quote the work. There is no obligation to proceed.
Period part sourcing for vintage work
For older pieces, we source period-correct components from specialist suppliers rather than substituting modern equivalents wherever possible.
Staged restoration with your agreement
On heirloom pieces, restoration proceeds in agreed stages. You review and approve each phase before work continues — not a common arrangement, but one we think is right.
Walk-in welcome, no booking needed
During workshop hours, you can simply come by with a watch. No form to fill out online, no waiting list to join — just a conversation with the person who will do the work.
