How mainspringed came to be
mainspringed was founded by a watchmaker who spent many years working in Bangkok servicing high-end pieces before choosing to settle in Hua Hin and open a smaller, more personal workshop. The name refers to the coiled spring at the heart of a mechanical movement — the part that stores and releases the energy that keeps everything running.
From the beginning, the intention was to run a workshop that serves a manageable number of customers well, rather than a large volume of customers adequately. That means taking on fewer jobs at a time, spending more time on each one, and being straightforward about what a piece actually needs versus what it can reasonably go without.
Hua Hin has a community of both residents and visitors who own watches that matter to them — not necessarily expensive watches, but watches with history or everyday significance. mainspringed is here to look after those pieces, whether that means a routine battery and gasket change or a careful, months-long restoration of something a grandparent brought back from Switzerland.

To provide careful, well-informed watch care to people in Hua Hin and the surrounding area — treating every piece, regardless of its monetary value, with the attention it deserves.
Our Approach
We work in stages, with your knowledge at each step. Nothing irreversible is undertaken on a heritage piece without discussion. Every job ends with a written summary of what was found and what was done.

Kritsana Phromwong
Head Watchmaker
Kritsana trained in Bangkok over fifteen years and holds a certification from the British Horological Institute. He leads all mechanical servicing and restoration work at the workshop.
Natnicha Thongsuk
Workshop Assistant
Natnicha handles intake records, parts correspondence, and day-to-day organisation of the workshop. She is often the first point of contact when you drop in or call.
Andrew Lawson
Consulting Horologist
Andrew consults on complex restorations, particularly pocket watches and early 20th-century Swiss pieces. He is based in Hua Hin part of the year and available by arrangement.
How we work
Workshop standards
These are not certificates on a wall — they are habits we have built into how the workshop runs day to day.
Written intake and condition records
Every watch that enters the workshop is logged with a written description of its condition. You receive a copy. This creates a clear baseline and protects both parties.
Proper cleaning equipment
We use an ultrasonic cleaning unit and appropriate watchmaking solvents. Movements are cleaned before lubrication on every full service — not skipped to save time.
Timing machine verification
After every mechanical service, the movement is measured on a timing machine in multiple positions. We aim for regulation within ±10 seconds per day on standard movements.
Water-resistance testing
Where relevant, gaskets are renewed and cases are tested for water resistance before return. We do not reassemble a watch and simply assume it is sealed.
Parts sourcing and documentation
Replacement parts are sourced from established suppliers or, for vintage work, from period-correct stock. All substitutions are noted in the completion summary.
Secure storage
Watches in the workshop are kept in a locked cabinet when not being worked on. Access is limited to the watchmaker and assistant. We carry appropriate workshop insurance.
Watch care in Hua Hin
Hua Hin does not have a large number of dedicated watch workshops, which is part of the reason mainspringed exists. Most watch owners in the region have had to post pieces to Bangkok or abroad for anything beyond a battery change — or leave a mechanical watch running sluggishly because no nearby option felt reliable.
mainspringed offers three levels of service to address the most common needs: a full mechanical health check for watches that have been sitting unused or are running poorly; a care and protection visit for quartz watches that need a battery, fresh gaskets, and a water-resistance check; and a longer-form restoration service for heirloom and vintage pieces that need more considered attention.
The workshop is on Naresdamri Road, a short walk from the seafront. Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours, and we are happy to take a look at a watch and give an honest assessment before any commitment is made. For complex or vintage pieces, the initial conversation is part of the process — it helps us understand the history of the piece and what the owner hopes to achieve.
We work on pieces from most major Swiss and Japanese manufacturers, as well as pocket watches, dress watches, and sport watches across a range of ages. If you are unsure whether we can help, the most straightforward thing is to bring the watch by and ask.
